Hi, I am
Kati!
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor here at Virtual Counselor & College Telehealth. I specialize in helping children, adolescents, and adults learn coping skills and other strategies to manage life stresses, build on existing strengths, and to empower themselves to feel better, more resilient, and more self-confident. I am a strong advocate for my clients and will work to deliver the highest level of service. I am skilled at linking clients to external resources to continue growth beyond therapy.
How I Can Help...
I work to provide a warm and safe space for clients to be themselves and speak openly about what brings them to therapy. Many people experience thoughts that they cannot express to their family or friends, they may feel depressed or anxious, or feel that no one can understand what they are going through. I strive to provide the comfort level and compassion to hear these thoughts and feelings and to help people feel heard and seen and understood. Common issues that I can help you with in therapy are relationship problems, work stress, financial stress, past trauma, feeling a loss of identity, major life changes, loss, and difficulty managing angry feelings. I can help you navigate what you are experiencing and see a way through it with support, skill building, and partnership.
In addition to working with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of presenting concerns, I also have a strong background in crisis intervention, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. I am trained in Functional Behavioral Assessment, ABA, and Sanctuary, a trauma-informed care model. I have worked in case management in my career and am skilled in finding resources to help you both in and out of session times. I also have a breadth of experience working on integrated health teams, so I look at things holistically and take the approach of looking at your entire system to see what contributes to how you are feeling.
I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Services from Lehigh University and did my internship at a free community clinic that partners with St. Luke’s University Hospital in the Southside of Bethlehem, PA. Prior to pursuing my degree, I worked in a variety of settings, including a memory care unit with Alzheimer’s patients, community mental health, residential psychiatric facilities for children and adolescents, and group homes for adults.
In my 8 years of providing psychotherapy, I pull from a variety of theories to serve each client individually. I am at my core a person-centered clinician who works to meet you where you are at and sees the value in you. Even when you may feel at your worst, I will help you see the strengths that you have and how to use your strengths as part of our treatment together. We will also work to help you identify and build new strengths. Depending on your personality, preferences, and what makes sense for what you are going through, I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Adlerian, Feminist, and Solution-Focused strategies to help you recognize unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors and work to find ways to make your life more functional and to reduce your stressors.
Ultimately, you are the expert in you and what makes you tick, so I believe in collaboration and partnership as part of our work together and want to hear what you think is important and what your thoughts are on what your treatment should look like. I also strongly believe in collaboration with your support network, so I welcome partners, parents, or other people who are part of your support team to provide input and support for you as you see fit.
When I am Not at Work....
I am spending time with my two dogs, family, and friends. I love to spend time outside and in nature, particularly in warm weather. I love to cook and bake and am always trying out new recipes and flavors on my (mostly) willing family. I love listening to music and playing games. I enjoy creative outlets like writing fiction, painting, and decorating. I have an irreverent sense of humor and enjoy comedy shows and movies, as well as all things horror and Stephen King.
